Aggressive, realistic, accurate, impactful and entertaining.
You name it and this movie has it.
It’s really sad to mention that these kind of cinematic excellence are not high in earnings per week, which has become the only judging criteria of HIT or SUPERHIT of a movie. For me, this Sooper se Ooper movie, irrespective of earning on box office.
And thanks to anyway, that there are still few masters in our film industry, who make movies to worship cinema and not just to make money.
Review:
The movie is all about a revenge (or actually speaking, the justice) of a folk singer of Arah Town in Bihar, against corrupt politician and police system.
The story of movie is very easy and common, but what made it stand apart, is the realistic treatment and the amount of research work done in background by movie’s director.
I do belong to U.P. and I have spent my some amount of childhood in village in UP, so I can very well judge the accuracy of theme, shown in the movie. Starting from lyrics of folk songs, stage decoration, nature of audience, and backdrop of village is very well captured by camera. It’s nothing but seer talent of director.
Talking about performance, or even before performance, let’s talk about selecting the cast. It’s class.
After watching the movie, even twice, I can’t imagine any other actor playing any of the role, played by actual cast of the movie. Each and every actor, I repeat each and every actor (including supporting role and background juniors) can’t be replaced even if the movie is remade.
I have always been admiring Swara Bhaskar, for her performances. Be it Nil Battey Sannata, Ranjhana or other. She has always been realistic in her played character. In this movie she has made Anaarkali alive. I can not think that this is a movie, but I feel it’s a biopic of a real life folk singer. Expression, language and attitude, grasped by Swara is fantastic.
The lime light of the movie is its music, which is authentic and original.
Well written folk songs and perfect voice with tune is so woven into the story that you never get to feel that a song is being performed. Its songs are also the story being told.
Pankaj Tripathi is always fit for any role of a character belonging to north Indian colour. And what to say about Sanjay Mishra. Words are less to describe the way he has played the role.
The movie starts with perfect node of a folk song. From the beginning itself the movie is on track and never gets out of track, even for a second. You just get indulge in the flow and it takes you to the unforgettable and joyful journey of river called CINEMA.
The climax of the movie is so impactful that even I have seen only the climax many times, it gives me goose bump every time. Fantastic.
The song, the lyrics and the atmosphere created by music in the climax is simply superb. Hats Off to Avinash Das, who has made each and every frame of this movie hand crafted.
I will not dare even to point out any mistake in the cinematography. NO, NO MEANS NO.
Even I liked the original name of the movie, “Anaarkali Arah waali”.
This movie is hand crafted, made from the soul and made for the soul of CINEMA.
